About the artist.
Anne Marie Kearns is a Carlow based visual artist, born and raised in County Clare, Ireland, where she developed a deep connection with the sea and the rural landscapes that continue to inspire her work. Initially pursuing a career in education, Anne-Marie spent several years teaching in Carlow, while remaining closely involved in the arts. However, having been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, she made the pivotal decision to retire from teaching in 1995 and dedicate herself fully to her passion for painting.
Anne-Marie initially worked in oils but transitioned to acrylics, drawn to the medium’s versatility and quick-drying properties. Over the years, her artistic expression has evolved, ranging from figurative to semi-abstract, and more recently at times, abstract work
In the early 1990’s, Anne- Marie was an active member of the Eigse Carlow Arts committee. Later, having moved from Carlow for family reasons, she founded and led two art groups, one in Mullingar and another in Wexford and taught art at a day care facility for people with disabilities. She has now returned to live in Carlow and to make art which continues to evoke the natural beauty of her surroundings, while her journey as an artist reflects her resilience and dedication to her craft.
Anne-Marie’s work has been exhibited at multiple exhibitions and galleries, including a sold-out solo show in Mullingar in 2015. Her art has garnered international recognition, with pieces bought by collectors, not only in Ireland, but also in the UK, and the United States.
